  • Photographing one of the most influential people in the world next week..

George J. Mitchell in his U.S. Senate office, 1987.Senator George J. Mitchell

Being a professional photographer has its perks at times, shooting celebrities, authors, Govenors and other famous people allows you to get closer to them and at times have a private moment to capture them just being themselves without all the pressure and fuss that surrounds them. Next week I will have the opportunity to meet and photograph Senator George J. Mitchell who has helped change peoples lives throughout the world. Below is just a small amount of the Senators bio, it goes on in detail even more about this amazing man and his work.

In 2008, Time magazine included him on its list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
He is also chancellor of The Queen’s University of Northern Ireland. He served as chairman of the International Crisis Group, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention of crises in international affairs, as chairman of the Special Commission investigating allegations of impropriety in the bidding process for the Olympic Games, and as chairman of the National Health Care Commission. Working on a pro bono basis, Senator Mitchell was the independent overseer of the American Red Cross Liberty Disaster Relief Fund, an organization formed to help victims of the 9/11 attacks.

At the request of President Bill Clinton and Israeli and Palestinian leaders, Senator Mitchell served as chairman of an international fact-finding committee on violence in the Middle East. The committee’s recommendation, widely known as The Mitchell Report, was endorsed by the Bush Administration, the European Union, and many other governments.

  • A Very Chilly Lake Tahoe Wedding!

Nothing was going to stop us from having a great time and a wonderful wedding in Lake Tahoe yesturday, not even the 30mph winds and the 31 degrees it was outside. Can you say bitter cold..ouch! But we did have a great wedding, the sun broke through the snowy clouds just long enough to warm us up and get through the ceremony and family photos afterwards. Then it was off to the Horizon Hotel and a beautiful reception and just absolutley one of the best wedding buffets I have ever experienced, they fed us like my Jewish mother! Here are just a few images from our day. And as always ….more to come.

HOUSTON (Oct. 6) – Astros pitcher Brandon Backe was among 10 people arrested during a brawl with police at a weekend wedding reception in a Galveston hotel bar.
The bride’s father, 19-year-old brother and a FEMA coordinator were also arrested Sunday at the hotel, a command center for emergency workers after Hurricane Ike went through Galveston Island on Sept. 13.
Police spokesman Capt. Walter Braun said an internal affairs investigation has been launched.
The 30-year-old Backe, a member of the wedding party, ignored police orders to back away from the fight, and struggled with officers who attempted to handcuff him, according to police reports.
One officer said he hit Backe twice in the face before handcuffing him. Both the officer and Backe sustained minor injuries during the fight, according to the police report.
“We are aware of an incident involving Brandon. We have spoken with him regarding his version of the event. Since this is a legal matter, any further comment on our part would be inappropriate,” Astros spokesman Jimmy Stanton said in a statement.
