wha…..?! People have been leaving Xanga in droves..what’s going on? i’m beginning to feel lonely here. no longer as much comments as I used to get. Many photographers have moved on…especially the guy that got me here in the first place…GF..wait..i see an entry from him..so he hasn’t totally abandoned it. For sure there’s been a lot of action going on in Facebook. It’s fun posting pics and getting comments..after all..that’s why we post isn’t it? us photographers are such narcisstics (sp). ok..ok…i’ll catch you on FB
@lelandwong - I put a LOT of time into making my Xanga page look just as professional
as my website, and I really love the Xanga layout and design
ease-of-use. But my friends SCREAMED at me that simply having the word
“Xanga” in my url was killing my professional credibility. So I finally caved and got a WordPress blog. Ironically, I worked very hard to make my WordPress blog look as much alike my Xanga page as possible, and I still prefer the Xanga interface more. But apparently for professional freelance photography, it is just more masses-friendly.
It is sad to see the Xanga photographer community dwindle like this. There have been so many inspiring photographers on Xanga over the years, I can’t list them all. Heck, I HIRED Xanga’s best wedding photographer, to shoot my own wedding!
Luckily, there are a ton of advantages and marketing strategies that you can use on Facebook to generate business. Some photographers have built their ENTIRE business model around marketing on Facebook, tagging brides, and that kinda stuff…
Still, i think that having a blog and using SEO to come up first when a bride googles your favorite wedding venues is CRITICAL to most people’s business models.
