Weddings VS Family Portraits…
Which one is easier to shoot? Honestly, its Weddings.
Potraiture with families is really an art. When its really hot and humid and you are working with 20 people and very small children who are not used to posing and smiling for a photographer, I had to try every trick in the book and after a hour and a half and over 100 shots I finally captured a few images of this group with all the little ones looking at my lens. I was soaking wet from the heat and thought my head was going to explode it was so hot. The great thing is the adults turned on the smiles instantly when I said lets shoot… and from the session know one would ever know how hot it was or uncomfortable we all were. The finished product is all that counts, and my family here was so sweet and fun to work with that I felt like family around them.
Here are just a few images from yesturday, still working on all the individual family shots this morning before church. My last family took a dip in the pool….crazy style water dipping as you can see!

Oh that first one melted my heart! Wonderful job Randy…
You must come take a look at my latest photo after shooting a wedding on my Facebook…
You know, I have to agree. When shooting a wedding, the family portrait is by far the most difficult or at least most annoying task. Everything else, if you are artistic / experienced enough, should come naturally. But there is nothing like yelling at 25-50 people to all look at you at the same exact moment!
People always ask me “oh you got such a great candid photo of my kid at so-and-so’s wedding, can you do family portraits of us? And I say NO!
