There are so many things couples forget to ask when they are hiring a DJ for their wedding.
I know price is a factor at times, but honestly, what are you saving if you have a non pro show up, looking sloppy the equipment sounds bad, they aren’t around when you need them, the battery in their wireless microphone is dead and when it comes to the toast know one can hear anything.
When you are searching for your DJ, not only ask questions such as, how is their music played? off a computer, CD’s, DVD etc. Find out about sound gear and ask to see photos of their set up, how small or large is it, will it fit in the desired area of your reception without taking up three tables in length? How many DJ’s are going to be present, what is the attire they wear at your wedding, and the most important thing of all is the person you are meeting the actual person who will be the DJ on your date? The photo above is of a DJ company I worked with in Lake Tahoe a couple of years ago, they sounded great, but the set up was huge, they were dressed down for a formal wedding which was all Black Tie and they acted like teens gone wild! My Bride and Groom told me they were asked to wear Tuxes which they said they had, they were instructed and asked if they had a small set up so not to take up too much room… that was a joke, they were up on risers, three tables of gear, wires all over the place, road cases stacked up against the wall and not hidden out of view.
All in all, ask questions, get it all in writing, see photos of the set up, meet only with the person who will be there on your day and ask for some current wedding referrals.
