  • Photographing a Wedding and then an Earthquake

My good friend Leland Wong back in the SF Bay Area just posted this on his blog and I wanted to share it with my readers too. This can happen anywhere, even in San Francisco.

Can you imagine what it was like to have been photographing a wedding in Sichuan, China when 7.9
earthquake hit and shakes for three minutes?  (photos courtesy of Dragon Photo, ND Daily and Sohu.com)

From what we understand, there were thirty-three missing guests in this church.

Please give to a charity of your choice to aid the victims of the earthquake of Sichuan, China and the cyclone of Burma.

  • The whole story here doesn’t link for me.

  • Wow that is amazing. I can’t even imagine!

  • Oh my gosh that is so sad! We just dont realize the enormity of what is going on in other parts of the world and the depth of tragedy going on.

    Thanks for posting that….]

  • it’s trully sad how much time these two world incidents get on our new stations.  thanks for posting this.  I feel so lucky that most my family has moved out of burma and china

  • Oh gosh, how sad for the bride and groom.  My thoughts and prayers are with them and their families.
I’m thankful I live in Texas where we don’t have Earthquakes, and we only have tornadoes to worry about.

  • I agree with Victor where is the coverage anymore. We just move on dont we…? No wonder it is hard to get people to help when they think it is over and things are being taken care of.

These pictures are just haunting. She never in her wildest dreams expected to see this on her wedding day. Imagine trying to put an album together for her. 33 people missing means she has lost friends and family.

I just cant get over looking at these pictures. But the worst is the school and the children lost there…

Thanks for the props and the super wonderful comments!

  • This makes “trash the dress” sessions look like a complete joke…  That looks like a bombed-out building in WW2 or something.  A total ground-zero war zone…  Talk about your worst nightmare…

  • that’s tragic :(

  • wow…i got over 70,000 hits for this post.  apparently many other blog and whatever sites linked my posting.  There’s about 200 comments too…I feel like a rock and roll star!  AP picked up the story and wrote an article about it now.  you can read it here;

for clarification;  33 people are not missing.  they were all safe.  apparently the church as a dilipated over 100 year old church and no one can go inside.  it’s a popular wedding photo site just like the palace of fine arts in SF.  In China, it’s fashionable to have a studio go out on a separate day to do outdoor shots.  Often there’s more than one couple.  And like the Legion of Honor, you’ll get many other couples and photographers out there too.  After the quake everyone had to spend a night out in the open because the roads headed back to Chengdu were blocked due to landslides.
