The Fastest Engagement Shoot in the West!
What’s involved in a typical local engagement shoot…
Client arrives 4 months pregnent at 6:10pm we travel to park near my house
Arrive at the park, client informs me she has to go potty, why of course! Ha!
Back to the house, bathroom and wardrobe change
Back to park by 6:30pm start shooting Groom to be then some shots of our Bride to be. Finish up around 6:55pm back to house by 7pm.
Upload images onto computer 7:05pm – 7:15pm start editing process, then download all edited images to CS3 then start the process of retouching, cropping and special effects including changing each image to Black and White (clients favorite). All in all 65 images finished and ready for web design using Show It fast Web Software from David Jay. Time to create, download and mix music finished at 8:30pm.
Next step upload images to my FTP server, takes 15 minutes. Preview show, email client and eat some dinner at 9:15pm.
A typical enagagement shoot for viewing purposes only has taken 3 1/2 hours so far and we haven’t even ordered any prints yet.
I like to shoot fast when creating images for clients, my reasoning is simple. My clients are not models and not used to being posed and directed. I try to keep things as simple as possable, shoot quickly, let them walk, talk and be themselves with just a small bit of direction and guidence. On my other sessions like my destination enagagement shoots, we have spent much time going over all the locations and outfit changes for the day and those are the shoots that take from 7-12 hours and turn a normal couple into super models for a day, but they are willing and prepared for it all.

Great images Randy — and I love the Mickey font!
Thanks for your comment on my blog. Photographing kids is kindna hard but I love it. You’re right about having a quick trigger finger….their expression changes very quickly. Btw, love your engagement photos. These two above look good together. Also, your turn around time is so quick…wow.
I forgot to mention, the first photo is of one of the six wild chickens that suddenly apeared out of knowhere at my park. I guess we are still a little country here in Roseville, California near Sacramento. After the shoot, for some reason, we all felt like going to KFC and getting a bucket dinner for 4! Ha!
such a nice park by your house. she’s in great shape for four months. you’re the fastest engagement shooter in the west.
