  • 2008 Weddings Go High Fashion!

I love shooting weddings and I really love it when my couples really bring it up a few notches and go all out! Not only do they look beautiful on their wedding day but it also gives me the opportunity to photograph some of most beautiful gowns we all see in the magazines on models and celebrities. Its your wedding day, your time to shine! Below is an article I found online along with many links to designers and their 2008 designs.

Next year, bridal gowns go high fashion.

Bridal Week is usually regulated to red-headed step-child status in the fashion world—and rightfully so. All those shiny white dresses start to look hypnotically similar, and what the designers lack in creativity, they make up for in rhinestones. The spring 2008 season, which wrapped up last week, showed off gowns that were, for once, more high fashion and less David’s Bridal. Designers like Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier, Elizabeth Filmore, and Reem Acra dared to stray from the usual formulaic looks and offered up off-the-shoulder dresses, pleats and ruffles, and even pastels. The showstopper of the week: Reem Acra’s silk taffeta cape gown with an embroidered belt (look 25). Next year, save the lace and satin for your tablecloths.

  • I just did a fashion shoot for Elizabeth Fillmore last Monday! Really interesting stuff! I am so tired of seeing the “same old” dress so I really do hope my ’08 brides go more unique routes!!!

  • It’s so sad–all of these models look so sad.  I know they want to draw attention to the clothing, but on your wedding day–it’s supposed to be the happiest day of your life, and you should be happy in what you are wearing.  I just wish bridal models would at least appear to seem happier.

  • I think I would like to get married again… All those beautiful gowns. Same everything but different dresses. Maybe a groundhog day kinda thing… every day could be a new designer and dress :)

  • still looking to land a high fashion wedding one of these days! but those gowns are beautiful!

  • Man I’d love to shoot a high-fashion bride! I’m always jealous of the bridal shoots that my friend does, he’s a fashion photographer and he really rocks at that kind of stuff… I definitely need to take my bridal portraits to a new level!

RE- Randy, can’t tell if you’re joking or not, but I’ll assume you’re serious: Only time will tell if this Nikon 3-D tracking mode is of REAL use in the field, in my every day shooting. It may have quirks that end up leaving it crippled as nothing more than a gimmick feature, or it may revolutionize the way we shoot. Wayyyy too soon for ME to tell, at least. Will post again after Scott’s LA workshop.

And also, I must stress, if you’re coming from a 5D, the image QUALITY is just not going to be the same at ISO 1600+… Sure, Nikon has finally figured out noise reduction, but the resolution, the DETAIL that comes from a 1.5x cropped sensor will never be what FF is, period.

Luckily, we’ll probably see an FX version of the D300 within 6 months or so, I’m betting, at around $3500 maybe? (Hey, the 5D was $3300 when it hit the shelves!) …But that’s just pure speculation at this point!

Oh and auto white balance indoors leaves something to be desired, in case you’ve come to heavily rely on that…
